Where can we read the Mayor's Proposed budget.
The budgets can be read on the city website
Why should we oppose the Mayor’s budget?
- Increases tax burden on the poor and working class while billion dollar companies and developers receive tax-breaks and assessment freezes.
- Wastefully creates $150,000 City Manager to take on the responsibilities of the Mayor. The mayoral position should be defunded and funded at a rate similar to city council members.
- Includes $4800 for renters facing eviction. This is enough for 1-2 families in New Britain.
- A $10,000 decrease in building code enforcement, when many residents are living in unsafe apartments.
- A $10,000 decrease to programs & events supporting diversity, equity and inclusion. In a diverse city that has yet to challenge systemic racism.
- Creates a $6 million dollar funding gap for New Britain schools. Our kids deserve a quality education. We cannot do that without funding the public schools.

Dear Common Council,
As a New Britain resident I am writing to oppose the Mayor’s proposed budget. I believe a moral budget should prioritize the needs of poor and working class people, not wealthy developers. I oppose this budget for the following reasons:
- Increases the tax burden on the poor and working class while allowing wealthy companies and developers take advantage of tax breaks.,
- Wastefully creates $150,000 City Manager to take on the responsibilities of the Mayor. The mayoral position should be defunded and funded at a rate similar to city council members.
- Includes only $4800 for renters facing eviction. This is enough for 1-2 families in New Britain.
- Proposes a $10,000 decrease in building code enforcement, when many residents are living in unsafe apartments.
- Proposes a $10,000 decrease to programs & events supporting diversity, equity and inclusion. In a diverse city that has yet to challenge systemic racism.
- Creates a $6 million dollar funding gap for New Britain schools. Our kids deserve a quality education. We cannot do that without funding the public schools.
I hope you will oppose this budget, and put forth a budget that is centered on equity during a time when many residents are struggling.
Best,
