State Policy Advocacy and Organizing

 Our work doesn’t stop at the city level. Many of the challenges our communities face—like underfunded services, unfair taxation, and mass incarceration—are driven by state-level policy. Through year-round organizing and advocacy, we are building people power to influence state legislation that directly impacts New Britain residents.

• Advocate for equitable taxation that ensures the wealthy and corporations pay their fair share to fund housing, education, and social services.
   
• Push for prison harm reduction and decarceration, including improved conditions and expanded supports for individuals reentering society.
   
• Expand access to housing, healthcare, and mental health services for people impacted by incarceration and poverty.

We know that lasting policy change takes organized people, not just good ideas. That’s why we work in close partnership with statewide coalitions like CT for All to educate, mobilize, and empower our community.

Together, we connect New Britain residents to the broader fights happening across Connecticut—and make sure our voices are heard in the state legislature and beyond.

We host regular workshops and info sessions in partnership with state-level organizations to break down:

• The Connecticut legislative session calendar
• How state laws impact housing, incarceration, education, and mental health access
• Where and how residents can take action
   

These events are open to the public and rooted in political education that is accessible, community-driven, and grounded in lived experience.

Alongside our partners, we help community members:

• Understand the key bills being debated at the Capitol
• Prepare to attend protests and public actions
• Travel to Hartford for lobby days and rallies, with training and support
• Share testimony and advocate directly to lawmakers
   

We believe that the people most impacted by injustice should be leading the fight—and we are committed to creating the structure and support for that to happen.

By working together with organizations and others, we:

• Build bridges between local and state-level movements
• Strengthen the collective power of directly impacted people
• Ensure that New Britain residents are at the table in every fight for justice in Connecticut
